Being a mixed club we have a Men's Playing Sub Committee and a Ladies' Playing Sub Committee
|
|
Our
Monday Club Group is well supported and provides a relaxed but
competitive afternoon game of bowls.Ideal for the experienced members
to practice their shots and for new bowlers to learn the skills of the
game.
A good friendly atmosphere is always the norm. |
|
The
club was founded on the 11th June 1906 when a group of prominent
business men in the town met in a room at the'Fountain' Week Street.Mr
Edmund Vaughan the Mayor of Maidstone at the time and an active member
in the formation of the club, became its first President. In the
preceding years the club became one of the most respected in the
County,a position which has been maintained as we look to celebrate 100
years in 2006.The club owns its existing site in Buckland Road and
being a private members club relies on voluntary support to achieve its
smooth running and to ensure the club house and green are of a standard
expected. The management of the club underwent a change in 1999 when the
members elected to become a mixed club and with it came the
establishment of a joint management committee supported by men's and
ladies playing committees. The club is also honoured to be the official
headquarters of the Kent County Bowling Association.
The club aims to promote the sport of bowls at all
levels and to this end it is affiliated to all national and governing
bodies that in turn provide valuable information and the organisation
of national and county competitions. The club organises its own internal
competitions and participates in all local leagues which are available
for all members to participate in together with entry into county
competitions. If none of these interest you there is a full fixture list
offering matches against other clubs both at weekends and weekdays. The
'Monday Club' meets every week for a friendly 'roll up' and the green
remains available for use outside of any organised events for which
there is no additional payment once the annual subscription has been
settled. This is currently £57.50 with a match day fee of
£2.50 to cover the cost of providing a tea. The club has an
active social committee who provide a programme of events throughout
the year for members and their guest's enjoyment and for generating
valuable funds in support of the club.
| 2006 was a significant year in the history of the club and many important
events were held to celebrate and acknowledge the foresight of
our forefathers,so why not consider joining us to enjoy the fun and to
launch the club for the next 100 years, |
The
club welcomes new members men and ladies of all ages, and if you are new
to the game and keen to give it a try, instruction is available from our
fully qualified instructors. If you want to find out more or just pop in
and have a look please contact either of the Secretaries listed or
locate us at the green. The season runs from May until the end of
September. |
